Rogers Centre charges 4th-highest beer price in all of baseball
Now that the Expos are gone and thriving in America’s most powerful city, there is once again only one professional baseball team north of the border.
Still, as you well know, the Toronto Blue Jays have a tough time drawing fans, routinely scoring near the bottom of MLB attendance. Last year, out of 30 teams, they were 25th.
The on-field team doesn’t help – rare has been the Jays team that’s even contended for the playoffs since their World Series win in 1993; they haven’t actually cracked the postseason in 19 years – but perhaps a new study’s unearthed another reason why fans stay away.
By one survey just commissioned, a beer at the Rogers Centre is the fourth-most expensive in all of baseball.
TheStreet.com just released its list of the ten most expensive beers in baseball, and there is old Rogers Centre, the concrete expanse formerly known as SkyDome, right near the top.
*Bing: How to haggle for cheap sports tickets
According to The Street’s numbers, a small draught beer costs $7.19 at the Rogers Centre (this is a U.S. conversion price), 15 cents more than what vendors charged at the stadium last year.
That’s more than what’s charged at other historic baseball stadiums like Dodger Stadium in L.A. (US$6.25 for a small draught) Busch Stadium in St. Louis ($6.75) and Wrigley Field in Chicago ($7), and even more than the new Yankee Stadium in New York, which if nothing else has been the epicentre of baseball overcharging since opening in 2009.
Boston, Philadelphia and Miami, which unveiled its new futuristic stadium just this year, are the only big league cities to charge more for a draught beer than Toronto.

I stopped attending Jays games years ago and this is a big part of why.

Rogers.... Highest price
So, business as usual then eh?
I remember years ago when my office was in Downtown TO, someone was trying to give away box seat tickets to a Jays game. No one wanted them. It was funny watching him walk around the office saying "Box SEATS!" and people saying, yeah, to a Jays game.
Successful strike was successful.

I do not go to the Rogers Centre because of the rip-off prices for beer and food.

Does't surprise me, we're talking Roger's here one of the biggest corporate crooks in Canada.
I got screwed by them and would'nt deal with them even if they were the only company in Canada!

I stopped going after the strike. I am not a unionist but when these $multi-million players settled their strike and then crossed the umpire's picket lines and played under minor league officiating, I decided that was the last draw and that they would not get another dime of my money. I don't watch or follow the sport at all anymore.

Rogers is an embarrassingly inept stadium owner. Not only do they grossly overcharge for beer, but when they have an opportunity to maximize profits by selling a massive quantity, they can't even get that straight. Grey Cup 2007 at the Rogers Centre: sold out with over 55,000 tickets sold, and they staff the beer taps for a typical Jays crowd of under 12,000. 2 hours to get a beer. One can only imagine how many beers went unsold that night.

The Blue Jays are the 4th most expensive beer price in the majors. The fact that is not conveyed here is that as stated in the article, Toronto is the only team not based in the USA. When was the last time you bought a beer in the states? And I mean outside of a sporting stadium. The price of a beer in the states is half of what we pay in Canada. The Canadian beer is a much better product too. So if you take the actual price paid for a beer in the store, and you compare the original price to the ball park selling price, (the upcharge percentage) the Jays are closer to the bottom of the list. You also have to remember that each beer sold in Canada, whether at the beer store or at the stadium has a huge tax amount in the price. The US does not have that high of a tax charge so you can't blame the Jays for the full price they have to charge. The American teams are making much more profit on each beerthey sell. Who is overcharging for a beer now? Beer is very cheap in the states.

Anyone who attends or will not attend a sporting event simply because of the beer prices should stay at home. It'll save actual fans from putting up with a bunch of rowdy drunks.
