Starbucks adds whopping drink size
Starbucks (SBUX) is rolling out an even bigger drink size. The 31-ounce Trenta will be available in all of its U.S. coffee stores by May 3, Reuters reports.
At first the Trenta will be available only for iced coffee and iced tea. It's a monstrously large serving, about seven ounces larger than the Venti already available for iced drinks. It'll cost about 50 cents more.
"Trenta" is the number 30 in Italian, so it's full speed ahead for Starbucks to Quaranta (40) and Cinquanta (50). Just an FYI: The average adult human bladder can hold about 17 ounces.
Now we know why Starbucks is trying to play down its "tall" size, which is a mere 12 ounces. It needs to make room on the menu for the newest addition. (There's also the eight-ounce "short," which isn't on the menu at all.)
The Trenta helps Starbucks compete with McDonald's (MCD), which sells 32-ounce cups of sweet tea. And it's larger than the coffees you can get at Dunkin' Donuts and 7-11 convenience stores, The Daily News reports.
Starting tomorrow, people can get the Trenta in Arizona, Texas and Florida. California will have it by Feb. 1.
Do we really need drink sizes to get this big? Starbucks has been testing the Trenta for nearly a year in select markets, and apparently the answer is yes.
* No word about availability in Canada.

"Do we really need drink sizes to get this big?"
Umm... "Hello?, Donuts are sold by the dozen, you don't think that one super big gulp is enough do you???" I just wish they would make more room between the seat and steering wheel in my 1 tonne pickup truck

Anyone who is eating donuts by the dozen has got be seriously insane or a diabetic on a sugar rush. The problem with that coffee size is that by the time you get half way through your coffee, it's going to be cold already unless you can reheat again. I take sips of my coffee when Im having coffee. I don't drink it like a Big Gulp from 7-11. Everyone is so obsessed with BIG. No wonder there are a lot of people with heart disease, diabetes, and cancer here in North America. It's the way people eat and drink. I only eat once a day. Sometimes twice a day in order for me to lose weight. I just drink a cup or two of coffee for breakfast sometimes with a high fiber muffin then an 8 ounce glass of Metamucil for lunch. I'll eat dinner regular portion then maybe have a snack of fruit or sushi midnight then go to sleep. That's why I don't gain any weight at all and keep my cholesterol down. I don't eat much red meat neither. Just a lot of poultry and fish, salads, beans, vegetables.

when people order this as a coffee it will be ordered with 10 creams and 14 susgars?!? that would be my daily calorie intake!!!
does that not sound wrong to anyone?!
if you are like PF and eet no red meat and live like a rabbit on pelts and carrots thats fine.. but seriously.. has BIGGEST LOSER not taught anyone anything?!!?!.. i feel sick reading this.

They can make a drink the size of a 5 gallon pail, doesn't mean you have to buy it. Use your heads people.

I don't need to go to coffee shop anymore.
I have my own tassimo machine which works just as fine.
Even with the Starbucks brand of tassimo...it works to 91 cdn cents per serving 12 servings per package.

Just about what I would expect from a yuppie/wannabe haven like starbucks . Thank goodness they are in minor roll to real coffee shops here in Canada

Yes the size does seem to be overdoing it however they are not talking the regular beverages that will be cold halfway through. If you read the article it is for the iced tea and iced coffee therefore staying cold and as for calorie content the iced tea doesn't come with 10 creams and sugars.

I can't understand why anyone needs that much-of anything. Personally, I have 1 6 ounce coffee every day-about 2 cups of water-no juice, no soda pop-ever, and about 6 ounces of milk. I''m 70 years old, and weigh about the same as I did 15 years ago-136 pounds. i work full timr-go to the gym twice a week, and walk everywhere-I don't drive.I hope to live to 100 healthy years old.
